Adven and municipal energy company Trelleborgs Energi collaborate for sustainable growth

Today, May 3, Adven took over the district heating production in Trelleborg, Sweden, and long-term collaboration between Adven and Trelleborgs Energi begins. In March 2021, the companies concluded a collaboration agreement to develop district heating in the rapidly growing city. In connection with the transfer, the work on expanding and making the district heating in Trelleborg more efficient can accelerate.

Magnus Sahlin, CEO of Trelleborgs Energi AB, explains how the collaboration with Adven enables sustainable growth in Trelleborg.

“By letting Adven manage the district heating production in Trelleborg, resources in the form of time and capital are freed up, and instead, we can invest in our newer business areas. Those include mainly energy efficiency, local electricity production and our main focus area at the moment – hydrogen.”

Mikael Rubin, Chairman of the Municipal Board in Trelleborg, says:

“Trelleborg municipality is at a very expansive stage. Over the next 25 years, almost 8,000 homes are planned to be built across the municipality and in doing that, it is essential to have strong partners who are professionals in their respective fields. An additional bonus is that the municipal group releases almost 150 million SEK when selling production facilities and land. This means that the municipality’s finances afterwards stand even stronger.

“The collaboration with Trelleborg is a good example of our strategy to continue to grow in sustainable energy for real estate and local industries,” says Anders Ericsson, CEO of the new Adven/Värmevärden group.

The Adven/Värmevärden group currently operates 53 district heating networks in Sweden, several of which are in Skåne. Today district heating production in Trelleborg becomes part of an extensive portfolio of plants, which provides good conditions for development and efficiency.

“We look forward to investing in Trelleborg and developing the infrastructure to support the city’s growth plans. With our expertise and experience, we will ensure that district heating is as efficient and sustainable as possible for the Trelleborg’s citizens,” says Henrik Johansson Casimiro, CEO of Adven Sweden.

Adven will begin the construction and implementation of a new bio-oil plant that will be in operation before the end of the year. In addition, Adven will invest in additional renewable production capacity in the form of a new wood chip boiler and convert existing oil reserve boilers. The measures will make today’s almost fossil-free district heating 100% renewable and fossil-free by 2025.
