Arctic Paper in Munkedal advances in sustainable energy

Together with its energy partner Adven, Arctic Paper in Munkedal, Sweden, is transforming the mill’s energy supply with the help of a new solid fuel boiler. Through several recent investments, the mill is now one of the world’s most environmentally friendly paper producers.

“The investments in Arctic Paper’s energy transition strengthen our competitiveness and reduce our environmental impact,” says Kent Blom, CEO of Arctic Paper Munkedals.

The European paper group Arctic Paper focuses both on sustainable energy solutions and on initiatives to improve biodiversity. A custom-made 30 MW steam boiler – powered by recycled fuels* – enables a shift away from natural gas and reduces CO2 emissions from the mill’s steam production. By converting recycled materials into energy, energy costs have been stabilized and reduced.

“We hope that our partnership inspires others to accelerate their energy transition,” says Henrik Johansson Casimiro, SVP Industrial Energy Solutions at Adven.

Arctic Paper Munkedals has previously invested in expanding its own hydropower, which has contributed to the mill today being one of Europe’s most resource-efficient mills. Several other environmental initiatives are also being made to take care of and improve biodiversity in the nearby river and nature.

“We are very optimistic about the future and will need to recruit lots of new people in the coming years. Being an attractive workplace is yet another reason to make sustainable investments,” says Kent Blom, CEO of Arctic Paper Munkedals.
