Industrial partnership with Nordic Paper improves energy efficiency in Säffle
Energy company Adven and the paper mill Nordic Paper in Säffle, Sweden, have signed a long-term agreement tailored to Nordic Paper’s operational needs. By leveraging the capacity of Adven’s modern district heating plant, Nordic Paper secures a stable and efficient heat supply for its production while contributing to a more reliable and optimized energy system. This collaboration allows Nordic Paper to focus more on its core business – while benefiting from a reliable, well-proven energy solution.
“We look forward to this collaboration,” says Stefan Åbom, Plant Manager at Nordic Paper in Säffle.
With around 180 employees, Nordic Paper supplies specialty paper to the global food industry, where stable and consistent energy is critical. Thanks to this partnership, parts of the production can now be powered by hot water from Adven’s plant, located right next to the factory.
“Energy supply is obviously very important to us. It feels reassuring to have a partner who understands our needs,” says Stefan Åbom, Plant Manager at Nordic Paper in Säffle.
With over 50 years of experience in providing tailored energy solutions for industries, Adven brings expertise in optimizing energy use and supporting industrial operations with reliable, efficient, and secure energy supply.
The two-year-old heating plant by the Byälven River in Säffle has the capacity to support Nordic Paper’s production process. Facilities like this are usually built on a much larger scale.
Smarter energy use all year round
For Adven, the partnership means that production capacity can be used more efficiently, especially during summer when demand from district heating customers is typically lower.
“The steady heat demand from Nordic Paper allows us to operate our plant more efficiently in summer by making better use of our capacity,” says Håkan Andersson, Production Manager at Adven in Säffle.
Nordic Paper’s use of the plant’s capacity also helps optimize the operation of Adven’s waste-to-energy boiler. This makes production and fuel logistics more predictable, improving long-term planning and efficiency.
“This is a great example of how collaboration can create real benefits. We see great potential in using existing energy production to support industry, and we look forward to providing Nordic Paper with a reliable energy supply for years to come,” concludes Håkan Andersson, production Manager at Adven in Säffle.
