Biofuel-based district heating terviklahendus to the whole municipality.

Energia kasutusest ja koostööst

The decision to build a biofuel boiler house was based on the heat management development plan prepared in cooperation with the municipality, which was approved by the Viimsi Rural Municipality Council at the end of 2016. As of autumn 2019, both the Haabneeme and Viimsi network areas will consume the heat of the boiler house, as a new 1.2-kilometer-long connection pipeline was built between these areas. The Haabneeme and Viimsi district heating networks produce an average of 110 megawatt-hours of thermal energy per year for 33000 buildings.

The investment in the boiler house was ca 2.5 million euros, of which almost 45% came from the European Union 2014-2020 Cohesion Fund support scheme “Efficient production and transmission of thermal energy” of the Environmental Investment Centre.

Opereerimisest ja tootmisest

The wood chips boiler house has a boiler with a capacity of 6 megawatts and a flue gas washer with a capacity of 1.3 megawatts, which allows to increase the efficiency of the boiler house and cleans the exhaust flue gases to the level that will be applied from 2030. The switch to local biofuel will allow prices to be kept more stable and the fuel management supply chain shortened. At the same time, it will also increase Estonia’s renewable energy indicators and reduce the amount of CO2 emitted by nearly 5000 tons per year.
