Adven’s Concept Development team is at the forefront of designing tailored energy and water solutions that help industrial customers achieve their sustainability, financial and operational goals. This spring, the team was strengthened with several new professional who have strong experience in industrial energy solutions. Let’s meet them.

Customers across industries face constant pressure to cut costs, improve efficiency, lower emissions, and become more sustainable in every part of their operations. Since every situation is different, the solutions need to be just as varied and tailored. Our Concept Development team is here to support that journey. We work closely with our customers to develop technical solutions that match their specific needs  whether it’s for energy supply, water treatment, or resource efficiency.

The team brings together expertise from three areas:

Energy Solutions, focusing on boiler solutions, heat pumps, cooling, industrial refrigeration, and energy efficiency
Water Solutions, with deep knowledge in water and wastewater treatment, as well as biogas production
Processing Solutions, specializing in energy efficient evaporation

Together with our sales teams, we look at the full picture including production processes and byproduct streams to create reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective concepts. Because we are independent of specific technology suppliers, we can always choose the solution that works best for your operations.

Our concept team brings strong problem-solving skills, solid theoretical knowledge, hands-on experience from investment projects, and a constant drive to learn and improve. Here we introduce our four new colleagues in the concept team.

Markku Helminen – Concept Manager, Energy Solutions

Markku Helminen brings to our Energy Solution team a unique combination of hands-on energy production know-how, technical design expertise, and project management skills built over the past 15 years.

His career began on the front lines with shift work at a power plant, later moving into energy production development. Most recently he worked in different roles across several electric boiler projects. But his expertise doesn’t stop there! Markku has also been involved in the creation of AI-based forecasting, audio and visual solution tools helping to shape smarter energy systems.

At Adven, he focuses on developing tailored, efficient, economical, and sustainable energy solutions to meet each customer’s unique needs.

“Early-stage concept development and comparison is the most meaningful and exciting for me. I already knew Adven, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how wide the offering is — from energy production to process optimization, water treatment, and even side stream processing,” Markku says.

Pekka Malinen – Senior Concept Manager, Processing Solutions

Pekka Malinen joins our Process Solutions team with over 30 years of experience from the chemical, food and biofuel sectors. Within biofuels, his focus has primarily been on bioethanol produced from various feedstocks. His background covers engineering across different project phases, research and development, and business development support. Companies like AFRY, St1, Rejlers and Neste are already on his résumé.

At Adven, Pekka will help industrial customers reach their sustainability targets by developing smarter energy and process solutions, building on decades of technical experience.

“With my broad experience, I wanted to keep working on solutions that support customers in reaching their sustainability goals and ultimately, contribute to a better world.”

His motto? “Never give up.” That’s Finnish sisu in action.

Timo Puputti – Concept Manager, Industrial Refrigeration, Cooling and Heat Recovery

Timo Puputti brings decades of experience in industrial refrigeration and energy solutions. He spent 25 years designing refrigeration and heat pump systems at RE-Suunnittelu, followed by three years at Suomen Teollisuuskylmä, where he worked hands-on in design, technical support and projects.

In the Energy Solution team, Timo focuses on developing concepts for industrial customers, with a special emphasis on large-scale industrial refrigeration, cooling and heat recovery projects. His expertise will be utilized to ensure that customer sites are both safe and energy-efficient. He is also capable of conducting ammonia dispersion modeling for projects.

“I’m really excited about driving energy transition through all the interesting customer projects and the opportunity to work on broader, integrated energy solutions — looking beyond just the refrigeration plant itself. I’m also happy to have so many new and talented colleagues at Adven,” he says.

Kjell Strandström – Concept Manager, Energy Solutions

Kjell Strandström joins in the Energy Solution teams bringing strong experience in energy-related consulting, where he has helped customers lower emissions and cut costs through innovative technical solutions.

Before joining Adven, Kjell worked at Novox on a wide range of green transition projects developing new energy solutions for various customers, for example by building simulation models to improve production. He also contributed to biorefinery projects, covering everything from energy production to process development and wastewater treatment.

Earlier in his career, he focused on process engineering and combustion-related CFD modelling across various companies and sectors.

After years in consulting, Kjell was ready to step into a role within a company where he could help industries with profitable and sustainable energy solutions.

“Having crossed paths with Adven in an earlier project, I saw Adven’s commitment to driving energy transition and decided this was the right place for me to make a bigger impact. At Adven, I’ll be working on defining energy concepts that help our customers reach their sustainability goals while ensuring a strong energy economy,” he says.

One of Kjell’s favorite quotes:
“Those who do not know, predict the future. Those who know, create it.”
