My name is Kasper Valliste, and I work as a Lead Engineer at Adven. My journey toward becoming an engineer began in childhood, when I spent hours going through my aunt’s science books. Chemistry and physics textbooks fascinated me the most, inspiring me to pursue a degree in thermal power engineering at Tallinn University of Technology.

During my second year at university, I joined Adven as an intern. After completing my internship, I was offered the chance to start working here full-time. The day-to-day work was full of challenges and provided lots of opportunities to learn. Every project was unique, giving me a strong foundation in technical problem-solving and collaboration. While working as a network engineer, I continued my studies, pursuing a master’s degree after defending the bachelor’s. Adven highly values education, offering me flexible working hours and a supportive environment throughout my studies.

A step forward as a lead engineer

In the spring of 2023, I took the next step in my career and started working as a Lead Engineer. This new role brought several new responsibilities. In addition to my previous tasks, I now coordinate the work of metering system specialists, manage heat meters for all district heating customers, and oversee the remote reading systems for these meters.

Beyond technical responsibilities, I gained a significant new area of focus: people management. I feel a deep sense of responsibility toward my team. At times, I question whether I have the skills and knowledge to represent them effectively, whether I support them sufficiently, and whether I can step in and cover for them when needed. This drives me to continuously improve, and I’m convinced there’s still much for me to learn in this area.

Daily work is both motivating and inspiring

Most of my workdays are spent behind the computer — preparing technical requirements for district heating network customers, whether for new connections or the reconstruction of old systems, drafting initial project assignments for building new sections of the heating network or reconstructing existing ones, and participating in construction project management. While most of my work is familiar, the new role has introduced many fresh aspects, which keeps me feeling like I’m constantly evolving. This is essential for me — work must remain both engaging and provide opportunities for growth.

One of the greatest joys of my job is the team and work environment. Our team is fantastic — we can discuss serious work matters and share a laugh. I’ve always enjoyed our team events and the friendly atmosphere in the office. At the same time, I feel that my work is directly connected to providing a critical service. This is a field where there is little room for error, but this very seriousness motivates me to strive even harder.

As a Lead Engineer, my goal is not only to achieve results but also to create an environment where people can grow and feel valued. I believe that even in a demanding field, it’s important to maintain humanity and a sense of humor, making workdays enjoyable.
